Understanding the Changes in the Materials Section of the B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines

The CENTER FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING RESEARCH is offering a new training series: Understanding the Changes in the Material Section of the B3 Sustainable Building Guidelines. This three-part workshop series examines how to meet the requirements of the newly revised Materials section of the B3 Guidelines. Each class will be held at the University of Minnesota and is eligible for 4 AIA HSW LUs. Additional information for each course can be found HERE.

SESSION 1: Overview of B3 Version 3.0 Changes and Guidelines I2: No or Very Low Emitting Materials and M1b: Environmental Product Declarations

Session description
This session will outline all of the changes in the materials and indoor environmental quality guidelines and provide an in-depth look at two of the product selection-related requirements.
 
SESSION 2:  Guideline M1a: Whole Building Life cycle Assessment and Guideline M4: Health
February 3, 2017, 12:30pm - 4:30pm

Session description
This session will discuss changes to the Whole Building LCA requirement in B3 Guidelines Version 3.0 and introduce the new guideline M4: Health. Whole building life-cycle assessment methods will be introduced, including demonstrations of both the life cycle assessment tools currently accepted by the B3 Guidelines: Athena Impact Estimator and Tally.

SESSION 3: Guideline M2: Environmentally Preferable Materials and M3: Waste Reduction and Management
March 3, 2017, 12:30pm - 4:30 pm
Session description
This session will describe the changes in both the guideline M2: Environmentally Preferable Materials and the guideline M3 Waste Reduction and Management.
