Q. Do you need to have a degree from the University of Minnesota to join the alumni association?

A. No! The University of Minnesota Alumni Association welcomes alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students and parents into the membership ranks.

Q. How do I join an alumni network or collegiate society?

A. There’s no need to join. Membership in a Collegiate Society is free with your Alumni Association membership. You will automatically be assigned to the college or school from which you received your degree(s). If you wish to be associated with another society, simply select the group(s) with which you desire to be affiliated when completing your membership form. A list of societies is available here.

Q. How do I join a chapter?

A. As long as we have the correct address(es) on file for you, you're already a member of a network if you live in one of our network areas. They are located in many areas outside of Minneapolis/St. Paul, throughout the world. Click here for more information regarding networks or call the Alumni Association at 612.624.2323 or 800.UM.ALUMS (800.862.5867).

Q. How do I update my contact information?

A. You can update your information online! Just click here.

Q. How do I gain access to my umn.edu email address?

A. University email accounts are administered by the Technology Helpline, which is part of the U's Office of Information Technology. Anyone who earned a bachelor, master, or doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus may request a free email account by calling the Helpline at 612-301-4357.

To access a University email account, visit www.mail.umn.edu and login with your Internet ID (also called an X.500) and password. If you do not know or remember this information, please call the Helpline at 612-301-4357.

Q. Is my membership tax deductible?

A. The University of Minnesota Alumni Association is an organization eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions. Membership and other contributions support programs that connect alumni, support students, and strengthen the University of Minnesota. The amount of the contribution that is deductible for federal income tax purposes is limited to the excess of the amount contributed by the donor over the value of goods or services provided by the organization. Membership includes a subscription to MINNESOTA magazine with an estimated fair market value of $5 per year.

A. The University of Minnesota Alumni Association does not have access to football tickets.

Q. How can I obtain a new member card?
