B3 Training: Moisture and Water Control in Above-Grade Assemblies

December 7, 2018 - December 14, 2018

The Center for Sustainable Building Research (CSBR) is offering two training and workshop sessions on Moisture and Water Control in Above-Grade Assemblies. The requirements in the new Version 3.1 of the B3 Guidelines represents a higher bar for understanding and documenting the moisture safety of a building’s enclosure.

Instructor: Rolf Jacobson, CSBR
Cost: $100 per person per session, lunch included
4 AIA HSW LUs for each session

Session 1: December 7, 2018, 12:30pm - 4:30pm, room 117 Bruininks Hall, AIA Course #SB2030-19B1
Session 1 will introduce the new requirements and provide a crash course on the building science principles of moisture and heat flow in above grade wall and roof assemblies. It will walk through three of the required types of moisture analysis including qualitative, static (Glaser), and dynamic (WUFI) analysis techniques. Participants will have the chance to work through a qualitative analysis, with more detailed Glaser and WUFI training in session 2.

Session 2: December 14, 2018, 12:30pm - 4:30pm, room 512B Bruininks Hall, AIA Course #SB2030-19B2
Session 2 will build on Session 1, which reviewed the building science principles of moisture flow and control layers, and introduced qualitative moisture assessment. Session 2 will provide tutorials for basic static (Glaser) and dynamic (WUFI) moisture assessment. Participants will have the opportunity to create models and analyze the simulations of several building assemblies, designing improvements to lower moisture risk and discussing the results.
