B3 Training: Sustainable Buildings 2030 'As-Designed' Feature

Monday, March 25, 2019 3:00PM - 4:30PM

The Center for Sustainable Building Research is offering a training session on the Sustainable Buildings 2030 (SB 2030) 'As-Designed' component embedded in the SB 2030 Energy Standard Tool.

This session will walk through the SB 2030 Energy Standard tool and the 'As-Designed' feature, which allows users to calculate the expected Energy Use Intensity (EUI) and carbon emissions for a given design. The SB 2030 Standard was set legislatively, and currently requires a 70% reduction in EUI and carbon emissions for new buildings, increasing to 80% in 2020. We will demonstrate how to use the SB 2030 Tool to set an EUI and carbon emissions standard, and how to use the 'As-Designed' feature to determine if a building meets the standard in design. We will demonstrate how to set up a project, select an HVAC system type, and evaluate energy efficiency strategies.

Date: March 25, 2019, 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Location: Bruininks Hall, room 420B, 222 Pleasant Street SE, Minneapolis, MN 55455
Instructor: Chris Baker, The Weidt Group
Cost: $25/person
AIA LU pending approval, AIA Course # TBA
Required: Please bring a laptop or tablet to follow along and try the tool for yourself.
Prerequisite knowldege: An understanding of basic HVAC system types and enclosure properties affecting energy consumption.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, each participant will:
  • Be able to use the SB 2030 tool to set an energy standard for a building.
  • Calculate expected EUI and carbon emissions for the building.
  • Be able to describe when the 'As-Designed' tool is appropriate for modeling a project.
  • Be able to describe the difference between Space Types and Space Asset Types
