Celebrating Alumni Impact at Homecoming

Homecoming is a wonderful opportunity to highlight and celebrate the impact of alumni on their communities, the Alumni Association and the U of M. Their invaluable contributions were particularly evident at this year’s Day of Service, the Annual Awards Affair and the Alumni Leader Summit.

U of M Day of Service

Day of Service 1 400x252 Day of Service 2 378x252

This was the fourth annual U of M Day of Service. More than 500 students, alumni and friends participated in service projects, which was a 47% increase from 2016 and a 119% increase from 2015. Volunteers in 15 cities across Minnesota, the U.S. and the first international location - Tokyo, Japan - served for a total of 1,282 hours, which created an economic impact of more than $30,000.

Annual Awards Affair

Cultivators. Connectors. Champions. Leaders. This year’s award recipients were described in many superlative terms by those who nominated them. Visit our website for a list of award recipients and information about their accomplishments.

Alumni Leader Summit

Summit 1 411x252 Summit 2 383x252

Alumni Leaders provided insights and feedback at the Summit that will be invaluable as the Alumni Association continues developing our new five-year strategic plan. A recording of the full summit is available online. Here are several areas alumni leaders indicated the Alumni Association should give priority focus for the next five years:

  • Providing career-oriented and personal enrichment programs that help alumni in their professional and everyday lives. (Behind the Scenes, webinars, speakers, online networking, etc.)
  • Connecting with students and recent alumni by providing distinctive programs and services for them. (Mentoring, special events, etc.)
  • Tapping alumni in MN to support the U’s legislative agenda through advocacy.

The Alumni Association is also surveying all alumni with e-mail addresses, conducting stakeholder interviews with key campus partners and listening to staff and alumni relations officers across campus. The UMAA Board of Directors will use all of this feedback to help shape future priorities.
