From Minnesota Alumni Magazine Winter 2017

W2017_GrowingOlderJohnJay-BeeBlackshear_Inline300 I feel like I’m 35, even though I’m 54 years young. I work on campus with young athletes who keep me updated on the world’s changes and new lingo.

I find myself feeling more like a grandfather than a parent to these young people.

Every year I get older and their age never changes. Every year there is a new group of 18-year-olds on campus. Sometimes they make me feel smarter and some days I get to lay some wisdom on them.
