Senior design student (and Alumni Association student designer) Breanne Christian created the 2018 Maroon Shirt™ tee with the goal of bringing together generations of Gophers. By combining Goldy Gopher images from across the decades with the words Stay Golden, Breanne’s design reminds us we are all ONE GOPHER FAMILY. We recently talked with Breanne about her time at the U and her work on the Maroon Shirt™.
UMAA: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Breanne: I am a senior studying graphic design here at the U of M. I am originally from Wausau, WI but love everything about living in Minnesota (except for the Vikings, Go Pack Go!). When I’m not in class or working you can find me out taking pictures (portrait photography is my favorite), at a concert, watching football, or sewing a new clothing item.
UMAA: How long have you been working with the Alumni Association?
Breanne: I’ve been working at the Alumni Association for about a year and a half now! I started here at the beginning of my junior year and have worked on materials for everything from webinars to Homecoming!
UMAA: How did the opportunity to design the Maroon Shirt Tee come about?
Breanne: Designing the Maroon Shirt actually started as a fun little competition between my boss and me! We both created designs and then had people vote on them and mine just happened to win!
UMAA: What was your approach to the design?
Breanne: While designing the Maroon Shirt, I wanted to make sure to include elements that all generations of Gophers would recognize. It definitely evokes some nostalgia but also shows how far we’ve come. It’s a design that a freshman going to their first football game as well as their parents or even grandparents who graduated years ago feel proud wearing. It reminds us that we are forever golden, no matter our generation or age.
