The U of M Alumni Association is powered by our volunteers. Everyday these volunteers are doing wonderful things and helping shape and support our alumni community in ways great and small. Our work is made possible by people like our volunteers - "everyday heroes" - and come from all corners of the globe.

In 2016, Akira Nakamura became the first international member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Nakamura is a 1992 Carlson School of Management Master of Business Administration graduate and has been the Vice President of the Japan Minnesota Association since 1995.

Nakamura has been involved in planning many events that promote exchange among Japanese alumni and U of M students. He has been especially dedicated to helping recent alumni succeed through innovative career development events. Volunteer_AkiraNakamura_Group In his working life, Nakamura is the general manager of business promotion at Lotte Capital, a financial company of a Korean-Japanese conglomerate. He has also experienced various leadership positions in GE Capital and a Japanese bank.
