The TREVLS Story
As told by U of M alumnus John Marino
I grew up in a small town in the southwestern part of Wisconsin. I toured many colleges and picked the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities because of the many great student programs, clubs, activities and alumni network. I was a student who changed my degree program over five times before graduating with a degree in political science.
After college I moved to Las Vegas and New York City before returning to the Twin Cities and starting my first company at 27, an online printing company. I sold the company three months before the iPad came out in March of 2010.
My next venture was a social media marketing company that became a full digital marketing agency in 2014. I had the opportunity to work on 450 different campaigns in a wide variety of industries.
I sold my agency in March 2016 and started TREVLS Tesla Rentals, the first all electric car rental fleet in Minnesota. The company began in March 2017 and opened the first retail branch location at the Mall of America two weeks before the Super Bowl. Now you can rent a Tesla for the hour, day, week or weekend and have one delivered to your home, office, hotel or airport.
How Has the University of Minnesota Impacted You
The University of Minnesota gave me the foundation to be the entrepreneur I am today. The classes, teachers, tutors and programs taught me to think on my feet, adapt to my surroundings and provide life-long relationships personally and professionally. I am grateful for the experiences during my college years and continue to meet alumni that have helped me further my career. Little known fact, I was Goldy Gopher for the U of M Alumni Association Spirit days on Fridays!
